Experience gained from research work, currently being carried out, highlights
the importance well-studied engineering disciplines have in product design. Issues
of tribology are being studied to help understand the influence these have on
both product durability as well as the consumption of energy in the product use
phase. A strong industrial link exists between this research unit and multi-national
companies, such as, SKF in the Netherlands,
Castrol International and Pira
International both in the United Kingdom. Collaborative work is also being
carried out with leading external universities such as Oviedo University
in Spain and the Ashikaga Institute of Technology in Japan.
